Product Overview

Are you looking to increase your strength so that you can be a more dominant MMA fighter inside the cage? Or maybe your an athlete in any sport, and you just want to get some kind of set at home to pack on some extra muscle, or tone the muscle you already have. Well if thats the case then you need to get a solid dumbbell weight set – enter the Powerblock U90 Stage 1 Adjustable 2-22.5kg Dumbbells set.

I just love these Dumbbells, they let me get an excellent workout in a reasonable weight range that I need. I also love how much space I save with this one set of Powerblock Dumbbells, I mean the weight range of 2-22.kgs per hand is the equivalent to 16 pairs of dumbbells or 374 kgs of free weights in one set!

The weight increments are really good too ranging from – 1, 3, 5, 7, 8, 9, 11, 12, 14, 16, 17, 18, 20, 22 and 22.5 kgs per hand! This makes increasing your lifting capacity safe and practical in a step by step manner.

I also love that I can upgrade these Powerblock Dumbbells with the U90 Stage II add on Kit to 41 Kgs per hand, and again to 57 kgs per hand with the U90 Stage III add on Kit – This enables you to upgrade your weight limits as your capacity to lift more grows.

Heres a video so you can see these amazing Dumbbells in action –

My Favourite parts of these dumbbells

I’m not gona rant about this for a long time, because I like to get to the point with things, but I will just quickly get to the point of my three favourite parts about these dumbbells –

MMA_Gateway_Powerblock_u90_Dumbbells_Weight Set UFCSPACE: if you don’t have the biggest place like me, then having 16+ sets of weights around the house is really not practical at all, so the fact that with this Powerblock Dumbbell set you can have the equivalent of 16 pairs of dumbbells from 2-22.5 Kgs IN ONE PAIR which is really an amazing space saver!

SAFETY: These Powerblock Dumbbells are built so well that every weight is a snug fit, and every weight increment is securely increased with a simple but effective locking mechanism –  Trust me I’ve seen plenty of other kinds of adjustable dumbbell sets be very wobbly, unsteady, and even fall on people while they are lifting! It’s hard to put into words how dangerous that can be, but you never have to worry about that with the Powerblocks.

UPGRADE OPTIONS: I really like the fact that if I ever want a new challenge with my weights, I can always get myself a U90 Stage II/III add on Kit to drastically increase the maximum weight in each hand to 41 and 57 Kgs! Realistically I will probably never get those upgrades, because I’m happy with the amount of muscle I carry, but it’s just good to know that I always have the option to upgrade.

  • PowerBlock U90 Stage 1 adjutable Dumbbells are amazing for space, dont even bother comparing to buying dumbbell sets, because you will save a lot of space, which for me is very handy, and makes them good for home use for anybody!
  • The U90 Stage I Dumbbells have a weight range of 2 – 22.5 kgs per hand and will easily replace 16 pairs of dumbbells or 374 kgs of free weights.
  • Safety is great with these Dumbbells, some adjutable sets can be a it wobbly and not secure, which is really dangerous with wieght lifting of any kind! You don’t have to worry about that with the Powerblock U90 Stage 1 Adjustable 2-22.5kg Dumbbells Set.
  • Increments achieved with these Dumbbells are; 1, 3, 5, 7, 8, 9, 11, 12, 14, 16, 17, 18, 20, 22 and 22.5 kgs per hand, which makes slowly expanding your capacity safe and practical.
  •  Speaking of which everything is so secure on these Dumbbells, the locking system for weight increases is so easy to use and really locks securely in place, so you never have any wobbly and unsafe weights.
  • The U90 Stage I Set can be expanded to 41 kgs per hand with the U90 Stage II add on Kit, and again to 57 kgs per hand with the U90 Stage III add on Kit, meaning its not the end if you get bored with 22.5KGs per hand :).
  • The set also contains Adder Weights.

  • A little pricey, and if you want to go above 22.5KGs perhand, then you will have to purchase the U90 stage II/III add on. However, 22.5KGs tops is good for me, because in MMA you don’t need massive bodybuilder muscle.
  •  The block design could be a little clunky or cumbersome for some people, but personall.

At the end of the day I have tried out a lot of Dumbbell sets through the years, and I can tell you that MMA_Gateway_Powerblock_u90 Dumbbells Weight Set UFCthis Powerblock U90 Stage 1 Adjustable 2-22.5kg Dumbbells Set is the best Dumbbell weight set that I have ever come across.

So really its a an easy decision if you need a set of Dumbbells that will give you everything you need for years of working out, without ever needing to buy a another set.

  1. This dumbbell weight set does look amazing and can be used at home, specially that I live in an apartment I don’t have a lot of space to put a dumbbell and many other weights, so this does solve that issue for me, thanks a lot for this review, it helped me decide.

Also for the price that it is set at that is not expensive at all, I am actually considering buying this heavily.

    • Hi Bassam, thanks for your comment, glad you liked the review and your right, for the quality of Dumbbell the price is good really

  2. This is a great review especially like the video.

I new to dumbbells and also, I live in an apartment so these will save me a lot of space. I have 2 questions for you. As I said, I am new to dumbbells and body building outside of a gym so can you tell me what the instruction manual is like?

Also, he mentions the stand he built for the dumbbells, is there a stand available for these? They look really tidy and useful.

Thanks for a great review. Alan

    • Hi Alan, good to hear your taking an interesting in building up a bit. In answer to your question there is a very simple instruction manual with the Dumbbells, but i didn’t need to use mine because the operation of the Powerblock u90s is really simple.

You can buy a variety of separate stands or make your own, but personally i just keep mine on the floor as they fit nicely under my table.

      Thanks for your feedback!

  3. WoW, That is great! I have dumbbells at home but it’s so hard to change the weight disks and I’m waisting so much time so I rarely use them 🙁 But now the problem seems to be solved! Powerblock is what I’m going to get soon. Thanks for the review!

    • Hi Ignat, yeah your not the first person ive heard that have had problems with other adjustable dumbbells. You won’t have any issues with the Powerblock, so its good to hear your going to get them soon 🙂

      Thanks for your support!

  4. I love how versatile the adjustable dumbbell is. It is a great invention and definitely worth the money. These dumbells make it easier to work out at home, especially if you already have a bench. Not only that, but you can exercise pretty much any part of your body that you want with dumbbells. Need to do chest? Perfect just make sure you have a bench. Want to work out arms? Curls for the girls baby. Can’t afford to skip leg day? Just use the dumbbell as a resistance while you do squats. Overall, having dumbbells in the home, especially adjustable ones, can save you a lot of time and money in the long run when you work out.

    • Hi Zach, yeah adjustable dumbbells are great for all round body workouts like you point out, but you have to get the right ones and the Powerblock u90 is definitely top of the line in this respect and good value in the long haul.

      Thanks for your feedback!

  5. Hey Marley,

I don’t fight MMA, my sport is BJJ, in fact that is also what my website is about- fitness and performance for BJJ.

I have seen these dumbells advertised and even considered purchasing them but I was afraid that they might be kind of cheesy, but it seems that you think they are pretty high quality. As as far as the price goes, they are a bit pricey but then again so are 16 pairs of dumbells!

    • Hi Rhett, well BJJ is pure beauty and I’m a blue belt myself, but yes these Powerblock dumbbells are amazing – the price is actually good for a long term investment, so maybe you should try some.

  6. Never heard of these to be honest but they look like the real deal! I’ve always used regular dumbbells but they are indeed more unpleasant because you have to pick a other one id you want to increase or decrease the weights.

Having 2-22.5kgs at your disposal is awesome and they look comy to grip. One can do all kinds of crazy workouts with this Powerblockdumbbells. They might be a bit pricey but you get what you pay for!

Do you know if you can somehow wash them – the gripping bar to be precise? I’m asking because I sweat a lot from some workouts lol.

    • Hey Simon, yes these Powerblocks are my favourite dumbell sets, and trust me they really are worth the price, but yes i usually wash mine with a standard cloth every few months.

      Thnaks for your feeddback!

  7. As both a fitness enthusiast, and someone who trains Gracie Jiu Jitsu, I really enjoyed this article. I’ve been looking something to set up in my home since my wife and I both work and she goes to school. It makes getting to a gym impossible right now. Thanks for the read!

    • Hi Kevin, always nice to hear from a fellow martial artist – I love Jiu-Jitsu, I’ve been training it a lot myself in recent years and got myself a blue belt not long ago:) glad you liked this review, because these Dumbbells are an awesome addition to any home gym. Also if your into Jiu-Jitsu, then check out this awesome Gi

  8. Hi there!

Although I’m not interested in bodybuilding and weights lifting overall, I must admit that these dumbells look cool and are pretty flexible when it comes to space management.

I’m a martial passionate (Muay Thai), and as you said, one might want to get more dominance over opponents, which means muscle gotta get a chance!

So, the idea is that for someone like me who doesn’t approve bodybuilding, I think that having one set of these (for combat training purposes) is enough as I don’t want my place to look like a bodybuilding gym! (replaces 16 sets, as you said!) Lol

Anyways, your review is great, and I like that you highlight the pros and cons each time.

    Thanks for sharing!

    • Hey Aydo, yes these dumbbells are amazing for space management as you mentioned, and very good for some strength training of all kinds, which every martial artist needs a bit of, but no we are not planning on being bodybuilders – too impractical for fighting as we know 🙂

Glad you like the review as well, your feedback is always really good, so thanks again bro!
